Digital Video (You Tube)

You Tube is my favourite digital tool especially for dance. You can find any types of dance through you tube and use it as the hook for the beginning of lessons or units. Watching other dancers on video helps students understand how different genres of dance should look and can also be used as an inspirational tool to help them get started on their own choreography. You tube is an great way to engage your class and can also be an informative for visual and auditory learners. This You Tube clip is a example of a Australian contemporary dance company Chunky Move. This clip give examples of how technology can be used through dance to heighten a performance, using lights, generated graphics to work with the movement of the dancer.
There are many You Tube videos out there, However you must be cautious when using it in the learning context due to some irrelevant information available through You Tube. Anyone can post a video on You Tube so the best option to take when wanting to show your class a video is to load it first and make sure it is the correct clip.

Embedding this video was the easiest task i have had to do in this course so far and can only imagine that students would pick this process up immediatley. You tube is easy to use and is easy to embed into powerpoint, blogs wikki, websites and I'm sure many others and works well in a dance environment.
